It won’t work, I walk up to it and press A, and it just says "it’s a game machine!".

I have some game coins (7110), so it isn’t that. How do I use ‘em?

Sounds like you have an European version of Pokemon Platinum.

All European version of that game took the "gambling" out because of laws about gambling, and how kids shouldn’t be gambling.
